Thanks yes, we'll see, won't we... in my defence, Your Honour, I would also say that I only do 5 or 6000 miles a year now, and drive in a pretty relaxed fashion, so mine may have a better than average chance.
Well after the best part of 3 months being stood up whilst I fought with a handbrake cable, and the weather. The Astra has finally been and had its mot, and passed with flying colours. So now to polish and give her a good valet. So glad to have her back on the road.
Good evening all!
After nine years of faithful ownership my Mondeo got wrote off due to being rear ended, looking for a cheap replacement but still with gadgets I plumped a 2012 2.0 CDTI Insignia Elite. Really enjoyed the car the time it was on the road but not it's not too happy and I feel I'm down a long journey to get it back on the road. Enjoying learning a lot about the mechanics but also suffering from the frustration of not having the car on the road.
Hopefully with a bit of help I can get it back on the road and share some knowledge down the line.
Cheers,
Chris
Hi Andy, Thanks for the welcome. When looking at different Insignias I too thought it might be underpowered but it does have 140bhp and having test driven quite a few I really couldn't notice much difference from the 2.0 CDTI, certainly not enough difference to warrant the extra fuel consumption. i average 48-50 mpg and get 65 on a run. I would like the new shape 2.0 but compared to other marques its not that good on fuel so I have been looking at the 1.5 petrol. At the minute mine drives like a new car so I am in no hurry.

Welcome to the club Chris. If there is anything you are unsure of, feel free to post your questions on here. There is always someone with some knowledge that could point you in the right direction. Hope its not too long before you are mobile again.
I took the car into a local garage that was recommended to me and they sent the ABS unit off for repair. Alas it was too far gone. Water ingress from the expansion tank. So now they are looking for a good used one for me. I guess it will have to be formatted to my car to work? How is this done I wonder? An other trip to the Vauxhall dealers?? I hope not. If and when I do get the car back, I will be looking for ways to stop water getting to the ABS again. An idea for anyone with a Meriva I guess!
I will keep posting as things develop,
Morning Jasper, and welcome to the club. Feel free to post any questions you might have regarding your car, as there is always someone who might be able to help.
Well it's all fitted back together nicely now. Handbrake all adjusted up. Monday morning I will be seeing if I can book an mot, and hopefully be back on the road again soon. I thought I'd better give the old girl a birthday wash too.

Update on getting handbrake cable removed.
Had to cut old cable and remove bracket from suspension arm, and then drill the old ones out.
Now I can get back to replacing new cable, and get the old girl in for mot. Hopefully before it snows.
