  1. Thankyou, I'm going to have a play tomorrow. wish me luck. If it works it'll keep the wife happy at least.
  2. Hi, I have just fitted an after market CD/Radio player in my mk4 astra. It is all working brilliantly except for the fact it will not hold the preset channels for the radio, and the cd goes back to track 1 every time you turn on. The wiring harness with the radio had connection blocks that plugged straight into the cars loom. Someone on google suggests swapping some wires over, would this work, and which wires? I can't seem to find the original google post. Any help would be much appreciated. TIA.
  3. That is a very valid point. I have noticed a few mk4 astras in my area with the same type of rim, but they are in standard factory silver. Makes me wonder if they were painted black to hide the cracks. I will be keeping a watchful eye on the other 3 rims.
  4. Thanks for the help.
  5. Here's what my wheel looked like from the front. Can't seem to upload a picture from behind.
  6. That's a relief. I had a feeling that it was going to be a serious problem to fix. I did notice that the screw that holds the drum on was missing. might see about putting one in. And the throttle is electronic. Had a look above the pedal and saw that there was a big black box with loads of wires coming out.
  7. Yeah I'd like to find them and stick their welder where the sun don't shine, bloody idiot.
  8. Brilliant thanks, i will be looking tomorrow after the school run. Also whilst i'm online, I was changing a wheel on the rear right hand side. When i put the new wheel on and turned it to line up the holes,I noticed that the centre hub was turning but the drum wasn't, but the holes were moving behind the drum. Is this normal??
  9. Well i managed to pick up a genuine vauxhall astra alloy rim to match the ones on the car from good old ebay. And it was only £14.95 with free postage. REESULTT!!!!!! Now i can dump the one that some cretin had welded up.. Andy.
  10. Can anyone please explain where the throttle cable is on my astra g. I was going to see if it needed adjusting as it seems a little light, and fluctuates when rolling along at about 50 mph. But i cant seem to find any sort of cable that would resemble a throttle cable. Is it electronic?? Please can anyone shed some light on this. Andy.
  11. Thank you Trevor. I'm looking forward to all the help i can get with some of the problems this car has. Whilst i'm here, how do i tell what engine is in my car? and how do i find the paint code? Also I've noticed on the rear of the car there should be badges, but they have been removed. I can see that my car is a "Twinport". How do I tell if this is a twinport?
  12. I will be getting a new sensor, and I will be getting the electric fan working. Have just replaced the top front suspension bushes , which has silenced the knocking which was there when i bought it.
  13. Haven't heard electric fan kick in when I've been in traffic. Thinking about giving it a live feed to see if it works. I have noticed that the outside temp gauge is missing, just 2 wires hanging behind front bumper. Could this have any effect on the temp gauge?
  14. Hi I am in need of a set of wheels for my astra. the alloys are getting a bit passed their prime. Had to remove one as it had been welded up on the centre , and was starting to break up. I'm in norfolk, not far from norwich. if any one has any kicking about surplus. Andy.

  16. Hi, my temperature gauge is not working like it should. On an average day, it doesn't move, even when at running temp. But, when you've bee sitting in traffic for a while, it starts to move up to the normal position. What could be causing this? and is it an easy fix? Thanks in advance Andy.
  17. That was Timpsons that quoted me the best part of £200 to get one sorted. Have since been told of a shop in a nearby town that can do it for a third of that price. So next pay day is looking good.
  18. It does seem to be doing well considering the previous owner was a young lad. It is need of some tlc, but i'll get there over the summer. If the engine is as good as the cavalier sri that i owned quite a few years ago, then i know that i have plenty of mileage left in her. Cavalier was a 1990 2.0ltr SRi 8valve 5-door hatch. Pulled like a trojan and when i finally had to scrap her due to the rear springs coming through. She had 260,000+ miles on the clock. I do have some niggly probs that i might need advice on, if i can't sort out myself. So i will be a regular visitor to this site. Do you have a parts for sale page? new or secondhand. As i will be looking for some replacement wheels. Those that are fitted aren't that great, had to remove one as it was breaking up. Regards Andy.
  19. Hi there. I have just joined the club, after buying a 2003 Astra G model. Unfortunately it only came with 1 key. I have been told that to get another one cut and programmed to the car, its going to cost £160. £40 of that is for them to go online to retrieve the code for the key. Is there a cheaper way of getting another key sorted. Thanks in advance, Andy.
  20. Hello everyone. I have just recently purchased a 2003 Astra G. And what a great car it is. Needs a bit of TLC as it was previously owned by a young driver. After removing the monster stickers, and other boy racer decals it now looks more like the family car I need. It has just clocked 100,000 miles, and I will be servicing her soon. New front pads are the first job on the list of "to do's". I am in mid norfolk, so if there are any other members nearby, I would like to meet and pick brain cells on a few queeries I have concerning my car. Regards all . Andy.
