Luckman Posted November 10, 2018 Posted November 10, 2018 2008 Vauxhall Astra 1.8 SRi XP Pack I have been having issues with my Vauxhall in the recent months and now finally looks like something's packed in. Initially had an issue with the car where it wouldn't start so had the starter motor replaced and it was fine for a couple months before I started experiencing starting issues... Dashboard lights up as normal but when the key is the the ingnition without any interference there is a clicking/thud noise coming from the fuse box. Fuses for Starter and ECU would noticebly be the cause of the noise and touched you can feel the clicking without a doubt. I tried to self diagnose per usual and found a temp fix but running a live wire between fuse terminals and by doing that the car would start. First couple times it started by connecting the wire onto the starter terminals. But as time went on the noise and both feel moved to the ECU fuse. Upon this happening in would live wire this fuse and it would start as before. Last week I went to the petrol station and when I turned the car off to fuel up when it came to turning back on upon ingnition the thud/clicking sound returned. However this time when I went to create a connection this time I had no reaction from the car for at least 1 hour. Recovery guy had come out and we tried to jump car to see if that would do anything but after a few mins of leaving cables on and then trying to make a connection using wires the car was turning over but not starting and after a couple tries it's still wouldn't start but then I heard a click noise from engine head/ECU area. I have put the fuses back into place and now when attempting to start car it has crank and attempts to start but won't WITH a loud click noise present. Similar if not the same noise I had when my starter packed in months ago. Only this time the car is cranking and clicking at same time but just not starting... The AA have run diagnostics with no faults returning, even cleared previous fault codes without recieving a clue back of what issue is. After AA failed to diagnose I sent it to the garage where the timing was checked(AA Recommended) with no faults found. Now I am stuck in a predicament where the car is not worth the money to be stripped apart and moved between garages to diagnose the issue. Truth also be told financially I am not in position to spend a fortune on this issue. Car will not start by jump or push In my hope to find a solution I've come to this forum. UPDATE: After AA clearing codes I did a pedal test and was presented with these codes 161600 - Steering column CIM, wrong environment identifier immobiliser B-006 161450 - Immobiliser wrong signal received B-008 or wrong transponder key immobiliser B-006 Thank you to all who have taken the time to read my post. Look forward to hearing a reply. Quote
Vauxhall Owners Club Posted November 13, 2018 Posted November 13, 2018 Hi....welcome to the Forum First thoughts are that it is either an ECU fault or a system relay fault. I would start by replacing the system relay....not a lot of money and you can do that yourself. Second thought is actually the immobiliser ECU which could be causing the issue. I would try the relay first and then if not, examine all external wiring through the engine bay to see if there is any chaffing occurring. Please let us know what you find, if anything and good luck Quote

Will update post when I have completed my efforts. Thanks again! Quote
Luckman Posted November 13, 2018 Author Posted November 13, 2018 Also after clearing codes and doing a pedal test the following codes were show: 161600 - Steering column CIM, wrong environment identifier immobiliser B-006 161450 - Immobiliser wrong signal received B-008 or wrong transponder key immobiliser B-006 Quote
Vauxhall Owners Club Posted November 15, 2018 Posted November 15, 2018 Very odd...but if it sporadically throws up these codes then fair enough but if they are permanent then you stand a better chance of resolving the issue....I would want to know if they are historic or permanent/current before going much further Quote
Luckman Posted November 15, 2018 Author Posted November 15, 2018 Hi, first time I did a test previous to any issue apart from when I would start the car it would just turn off itself but would be fine on restart. Would only happen occasionally. The test at this time had shown up these codes; 05761 - Thermostat 161600 - Steering column CIM, wrong environment identifier immobiliser B-006 161450 - Immobiliser wrong signal received B-008 or wrong transponder key immobiliser B-006 04025A - Cat Converter 001166 - Cam sensor After a while my starter packed in and I thought it was the last of the issues when I replaced it, along with new battery and also a alternator test HOWEVER Shortly after that the issues I stated in main post about the non starting and clicking had started to occur. AA Had cleared any codes recently and when I did this test a few days ago the only two codes present are: 161600 - Steering column CIM, wrong environment identifier immobiliser B-006 161450 - Immobiliser wrong signal received B-008 or wrong transponder key immobiliser B-006 Still present and permanent it seems Thank you! Vauxhall Owners Club Posted November 16, 2018 Posted November 16, 2018 Sounds like it is a permanent (but momentary) issue with the immobiliser...do you have another key to try or if not, can you programme the key back into the vehicle again? Also, Cam Sensor can lead to poor starting, but not clicking relays though Quote
