Fuel range

When I park up my fuel range may say 300 miles but when I go back to the car i says I only have 60 miles or so and the fuel light is on and the gauge is showing I'm empty, but when I start driving it starts to go back up to the correct level?

Sounds par for the course I'd say

My motorbike does exactly the same (although sitting on a sidestand I can  see why it would be slightly lower) but always rectifies itself when rolling up the road
