Aircon gas release

Is there a way to release the aircon gas without risk from the high pressures involved? 

 

If it helps mine is a 2013 2litre diesel ecoflex.

Best to get it properly evacuated at a garage to save the environment and they can even reuse it to refill your A/C once you have carried out the work on it
