Grace Posted December 28, 2023 Posted December 28, 2023 Vauxhall Insignia, 17 plate, diesel, 67k miles Hi, my car broke down yesterday and we had courtesy breakdown cover from Vauxhall with RAC so had to get it towed to a Vauxhall garage. They have said the timing chain has gone and the car had no oil... Car had full service in June at a (different) Vauxhall garage where they topped up the oil. We've done 4000 miles and it had an MOT on 19th December at an independent garage with no relevant advisories. I'm confused as to where all the oil has gone? We have no signs of an oil leak on driveway and no warning signs on the dashboard. A friends partner is a mechanic and reckons it needs a new engine/or scrap it which is not ideal as we've only just finished paying off the finance (to Vauxhall). Vauxhall will investigate (for £600) but hoping it isn't completely dead. Any advice? Thanks in advance. Quote
Finn Posted December 29, 2023 Posted December 29, 2023 You could take it back and get the RAC to inspect it. Odd that no warning lights came on to tell you low oil, has it been disabled Quote
