Huws gray Posted January 31 Posted January 31 Can I ask if anybody with a grandland x 2018 has had a situation where you have had no warning but all of a sudden your oil light comes on and it says stop car I did this left it for 10 mins starting back up & it’s not happened since and there is no signs of a leak in my driveway any advice & able to shine a lite on this would be greatly appreciated Thanks John Quote
Wright4 Posted February 2 Posted February 2 Yes I had this, issue is the wet belt inside the engine breaks down clogging the oil so that it can’t get around the engine. I needed to belt and sump cleaned out. Quote
Huws gray Posted February 2 Author Posted February 2 Thanks for that is it something I can do or is it a garage job ?? Quote
Wright4 Posted February 3 Posted February 3 definitely a garage job, it’s labour that’s going to cost you the most as the engine needs to be taken apart. It’s because the belt is inside of the engine rather than outside like they used to be. Common problem with quite a few types of cars as its a part that wears down Quote
Huws gray Posted February 3 Author Posted February 3 Have a friend who is a mechanic & because it’s been over a week with no more problems we’re going to flush the engine through with oil flush new oil filter and oil change Quote
Wright4 Posted February 3 Posted February 3 Mine happened then took a few weeks before it came up again, then happened more regularly. You can see the belt if you look in the through the oil cap. If the belt is breaking down though I’m not sure how regularly you would need to change oil to prevent it Quote
Huws gray Posted February 3 Author Posted February 3 Good afternoon it looks like I need my wet belt changing but I have found an article from 2023 saying that they are aware of the fault and recalling is anyone aware of this and can we take back and get repairs done ?? Quote
Huws gray Posted February 3 Author Posted February 3 If it’s a common fault why are we not made aware when we purchase the car it cost me £19000 two years ago and I would not have bought it I knew this Quote
Wright4 Posted February 3 Posted February 3 Yeah I was looking into the same as it being a fault that’s they should be fixing but didn’t get much luck. Seems issues with Peugeot, Citroen and ford as well. The issue is it’s a part that does wear down but as it’s in the engine it causes other problems and also requires so much labour to service. I decided not to continue trying to get them to pay for it as no guarantees and needed it fixed quick and putting it to them would have probs cost me a lost more than my garage. Quote
MAP Posted February 20 Posted February 20 I recently had the wet belt issue on my GrandlandX 1.2. A Vauxhall dealership diagnosed the issue as Wet Belt and then asked for £1049 for the repair. Eventually I made a case via Vauxhall customer service and their Good Will Dept, (I gave no details except the dealership). They paid in full for the costs. 1 Quote
Cross x Posted February 22 Posted February 22 (edited) Just had this happen on my 2019 Crossland x 1.2T auto, less than 25,000 miles covered, bought used. My clusters abrupt warning was a “Braking system failure, stop the engine”. Currently at dealership, quoted at least £1500, but won’t have an exact figure until the engine is stripped. Was advised to contact Vauxhall customer services, they may contribute towards the repair as a good will because it’s a common problem with this engine that Vauxhall are fully aware of. If it’s so common, they should be recalled. Vauxhall won’t be contributing to my repair though, because of missing service history with approved workshops even though it’s the poor quality of parts fitted during the manufacturing process. matt2611 Posted March 31 Posted March 31 local garage to me is doing my belt for £650 corsa f 2020, vauxhall wanted £800+iv been told ow20 oil should be used but mines allways had ow30 ?? Quote
Namensekofti Posted May 31 Posted May 31 Took mine to Vauxhall garage and they tried to say that theres no faults with the car. After i spoke to the head mechanic he diagnosed it as the wet belt is gone. If the car has done less than 60000 then Vauxhall is obliged to fix it free of charge. Just letting you know that if you have a similar issue go direct to a Vauxhall dealership. Quote
Sianella Posted July 12 Posted July 12 I have a two year old Vauxhall crossland, the timing belt has just gone and vauxhall are refusing to pay as it missed the last service, 2 1/2 months overdue. Even though it is clear there is a problem with the wet timing belts and this would not have been picked up at the service anyway! I am taking it to the vehicle ombudsman. It has cost me £1600 to get it repaired via a Vauxhall dealer, no other garage would even quote for it as the said it was definitely a warranty claim! I asked to speak with a manager and was told that the claim was decided and case closed! Not from my end it isn’t!!! Quote
C.J Posted October 8 Posted October 8 (edited) I also have an issue with a defective wet timing belt on my 4 year old crossland that has just hit 20,000 miles, it’s caused various other issues with the engine and I’m fighting with Vauxhall for them to take responsibility for selling me a vehicle that isn’t fit for purpose. I am going to instruct a law firm that deal with consumers rights, happy for anyone to either join in the action or just send me a testimonial about your issues so that we can get this company to recall vehicles and admit the KNOWN fault Edited October 8 by C.J Quote
