Morning all,

Last month I was given the news that apparently plenty other people have had - the engine is trashed - at 40k miles on a 2021 astra 1.2 Sri.

I was advised it was the krank shaft float end(or end float), which i now gather is a tad notorious amongst owners.

I was shocked on a quick Google chsck to find how many others had had the same issue - trashed engine, not our problem it's out of warranty, pay up for a new engine.

I asked vauxhall to cover it, they laughed me off over email. But I smelt a rat as well as burning oil.

Hang on, just how many of these engines have failed on the same part? How many have you replaced under warranty and how many have you demanded customers pay for?

Er...sorry we can't share that. Oh, now I'm definitely interested, as if it was very few, you'd have said.

So I contacted the Ombudsman. I charged that vauxhall uk:

- Know there is an issue this engine design, and have failed to warn buyers or owners of the potential for failure.

- they have failed to recall vehicles to check this area of vehicle for excess movement.

- they have failed to inform owners of the issue and how to avoid it.

And the Ombudsman have this week agreed there is a case for investigation and are allocating staff to investigate.

If they've ripped off the amount of people i think they have, and they most certainly haven't warned owners they need to baby the oil on these things like a full sports car, this could cost them a lot of bad press and money.

So, if you've also had this 'whoops your engine had blown up but it's not our fault' line from vauxhall for this particular failure, there's potential help incoming from the Ombudsman.

Should they find in my/our favour, which I'm confident they will, this may be grounds for a class/group action from affected owners and also anyone driving one of these wetbelt cars that wasn't told of this problem on purchase.
